Horology and dynamic objects

Based in Brussels (Belgium), but also working in the UK and in France, Françoise Collanges is a former curator and trained horologist, specialised in the conservation and care of historical objects.

Trained in some of the best schools in conservation in Europe (Paris-Sorbonne in France, West Dean College in the UK), she embraces the ethics defined by the leading national and international institutions in the field of conservation (see ECCO guidelines) and provides the highest standards of work. She is also a member of Icon (UK).

Collection care and management

FCConservation offers an integrated service for the conservation of your collection. From the conservation-restoration of single objects to the assessment and management of a complete collection, FCC will understand your needs and taylor the best solution for you and your object(s).

As a private collector or a public institution, you may be considering how to improve the management of your collection. Assessing risks, improving storage, managing transports, display and environmental conditions are important for protecting your collection and keeping it safe for longer.

Thanks to a master degree in preventive conservation (Paris-Sorbonne) and a strong experience in museum management, Françoise can assess the general condition of all types of collections (objects condition, climate and pests monitoring, risks assessment, transport, etc.) and advise on their long-term conservation and management (for exhibition, storage, emergency response, etc). She can provide a team of specialists who will give you the best advice on any object associated to your collection.

For collections of horological and dynamic objects, which are sensitive to specific wear patterns, collection care provides new ways to manage the running and maintenance, in order to limit restorations and improve long-term conservation.

Conservation-restoration

Françoise was trained for two years at West Dean College (UK) in the conservation of clocks and obtained a MA in Conservation Studies, before settling as a free-lance conservator. She can service, conserve and restore all type of mechanical and electro-mechanical clocks for private customers and for public institutions. Her experience ranges from French and English mantel and longcase clocks (16th to 20th c.),  to mystery and observatory astronomical clocks.

FCConservation will provide you with a first assessment and an estimate of the cost of conserving your clock before the start of any work, on the mechanical parts as well as on the case. During treatment, you will be informed of any major change to the project. A treatment report will be provided to you at the end of the work (on demand).

Data management, documentation and research

Trained as a researcher, Françoise will answer demands of historical research concerning horological objects. Member of several horological Societies (AHS, AFAHA) and working in France and United Kingdom as well as in Ireland, she can identify and study specific objects.

Formely in charge of cataloguing collections in several museums, she can help you to organise, list and catalogue your information on your collections.

Her specific topic of expertise is  technical collections and horology. She will provide you with a filing system adapted to your needs, whatever they are (private use, trade or public display), or simply adapt the information to your own data system.

She can write in French and in English for formal publications, on line or on paper, and is available to work on projects to research and publish horological collections.

FCConservation  will offer you a different view of your collection and provide
new methods of management and conservation taylored to your needs.
